Hi, I hacked shell32.dll for the first time and changed a whole bunch of icons. Most of the icons were changed, but the My Computer, Recycle Bin, IExplorer, Control Panel icon, and a few others, were not changed...
Is there something additional to do to change these icons?
PS - How do I get rid of the icon in the top left corner of every window?
its been working for programs, thanks uac but how do I get rid of it in the windows explorer windows? I dont want to get rid of it everywhere, just in the caption
the ones on explorer windows are the "open folder" icon, so you have to replace the open folder icon with a blank. if you open a special icon (my music, my documents) they don't show the "open folder" icon. for the caption icon to be blank on those folders you'll have to make the folder's icon blank also.
You know you can change My Computer, My Documents, Recycle Bin, and My Network Places by right-click desktop > properties > display > customize desktop... right?
As for the top left corner thing a lot of visual styles do it so thats probably the easiest way to do it.
for the styler toolbar skin you are using you put this following code in:
captionicon=Transparency.ico
so have the blank icon that you choose to use in the folder of the skin you are using and name it transparency.ico. Then open toolbar config up and put the above line in there, which is called Toolbar.
The easiest thing to do if you are having trouble is just download a toolbar that already has the blank icon already set up and then add the buttons and etc from there.I know that the medusa visual style toolbar it already like that, and some others too.
Hope this kinda helps to anybody who was wondering
Oh well it works, but I thought every captionicon would be blank now, not just that of explorer xD And you need to activate the toolbar of styler, which I don't use anyways...
As far as i know, no. The blank icon only replaces any icon that deals with open folders inside the explorer. It does not also replace the icon of an application, which is too bad because it would save alot of time with reshacker.
In styler, go to the fonts section under the style tab and for the caption text just set it as a blank font. Then apply the style and you will have no text on the caption. Styler is very helpful when it comes to the font option and it apply's it to almost everything.
Having really nothing to do lately. Waiting for another week and a half to go back to San Francisco so i decided to check things out. Might actually submit something too before i leave, will be the last chance i have.
Is there a way to get rid of the notepad icon in the caption w/o getting rid of it in the windows explorer view? ie. I want to still see the icon when browsing thru files in explorer window, but dont want it to appear in the title caption of the notepad window.
This is a VERY useful discussion. One more question: I've also found that reshacking .exe files can affect the caption icon in the app window but not the taskbar caption. Can someone explain how to edit the taskbar caption for .exe's?
Does someone know the answer to my question? :) ::: Is there a way to get rid of the notepad icon in the caption w/o getting rid of it in the windows explorer view? ::: Styler only gets rid of explorer caption icons
i had tried that and changed just those icons, docs and mypicutures folders, and windows kept complaining that mydocs.dll is an invalid dll perhaps ill try it again
as for "Is there a way to get rid of the notepad icon in the caption w/o getting rid of it in the windows explorer view?" .. anyone have an answer for that?
styler isn't doing it for me, it is only getting rid of 'open folder' caption icons, plus its not being very stable.
In Reshacker, I replaced some icons for programs with a blank icon, but then it was also blank in the filemanager. I don't want it to be blank in the file manager, just in the caption of the window. Can anyone shed some insight on this for me... I would really appreciate it.
To get rid of Notepad's icon you have to reshack Notepad and replace it's icon with a blank one, this will of course make the icon disappear in explorer too. For me this is no problem as i never go the Windows dir anyway unless i want to hack something, but if you want you can always make a shortcut to it and give that the original icon, that works for your Explorer startmenu too of course.
