yesterday and went straight to the used record store after that. Bought me The Kinks - Greatest Hits, CCR - Gold and The Rolling Stones - Stones Story to start with. These are great to start my recocd collection with and you gotta just love the sound of these things. Does anyone of you guys still like to play some music in the old way and have some great tips of records to buy?

kinks' greatest hits is almost nothing compared to "face to face" or "something else by..."

Although the demand is high, try to get your paws on anything Beatles. My parents gifted to me a bunch of EPs and LPs from The Beatles a couple years back that I play on our old (very old) stereo, and the sound is just awesome.

Beatles stuff isn't too terrible hard to find, simply because they were (are?) the most popular act on the planet. You're not going to find mint firsts, but you can find them. They also reissued them all on 180-Gram Vinyl a bit ago, along with a lot of other great 60's acts.

Always hunt down the "B's":

Beatles
Beach Boys
Byrds
Big Star

I picked up all the vinyl I own at an antique store in Athens. A handful of semi-obscure British guitar pop from the 80s. Aztec Camera, The Bluebells, The Soup Dragons. And Oh-OK, even though they're not British. Oh, and I picked up a copy of Digital Underground's "Humpty Dance" single because, well, it was two bucks.

I have a few record players. I have two tech 12's that pretty much sit and collect dust. I used to DJ with em' back in high school. For regular listening I have an old Beogram RX2.

As far as LP's go, I have inherited piles of them from my parents. They don't use em' anymore so I sorted and organized them. I also have a bunch of stuff from the DJing days.

I find a lot of gems at yard sales and related markets.

This summer I'm hoping to build myself a matching retro style vacuum amplifier to go with the turntable. We'll see.

I have and use a turntable. I am looking to get a new cartridge recently though, as my current one's frequency response leaves more to the imagination than I would like. I mainly listen to newer records (like 80s-recent) on my turntable, but I have some 60s and 70s. Vinyl is the way to go, to experience your albums in a way that is very different from today's compact disc. Also, when you invest in vinyl you may be preserving the recording for a long time, even if its quality degrades a little over time, its not nearly as catostrophic as the damage to a CD over time is.
