In my opinion the designs themselves were good but the presentation of them was terrible. I went to the site and just gave up. Forcing people to download everything one-by-one and having everything in a .zip is a terrible way to approach things, no matter how good the site looks. Not to mention I didn't see many widescreen walls. :P
aeiko - it was our pleasure. desktopography is quite the accomplishment, and congrats on its wild success!
asuraci - the desktopography website is a work of art itself, which I thought was done very well. It wouldn't necessarily have the same usability goals in mind as a site like custo. I have been talking to aeiko and hopefully we'll start seeing some more wallpapers from the exhibition start to pop up on custo (attached to this group actually) so we'll get the best of both worlds :)
yeah asuraci, your missing the point..the whole site was a user experience, the flash, sound etc..I wanted to promote the artists too, it would be too easy if you just dowloaded one big zip file, perhaps this sort of experience was not aimed at you..and yeah we should have some up on here soon anyway :p
So making everyone click and download everything separately enhances the user experience, I think not. The site presentation and music is amazing, but the individual downloads are cumbersome and annoying. I'm not sure what this "experience" is you're aiming for, the site design is great but nothing groundbreaking. However, the artwork is superb.
yeah, they get to see information about the artist and choose the one they want, if they want more then it forces them to go through and check out each piece.. :)
